What’s covered, and for how long.

“Warranty” gets used as if it means one thing. It’s actually three: the work we did with our own hands, the appliance the manufacturer made, and the small wear-and-tear parts that are built to be replaced. They’re covered for different lengths of time, by different people. Here’s exactly how each one works — including the short one most people don’t expect.

§02 / Three kinds of cover

Three Types of Plumbing Warranty in Australia — Know the Difference

Most warranty confusion comes from treating these as one thing. They’re not — they cover different parts of the job, for different lengths of time. Here’s each, in plain terms.

PVS workmanship 12months

The work we did with our own hands.

The part you’re really paying us for: the joins we made, the fittings we set, the way we installed it. If our workmanship fails inside 12 months, we come back and put it right — no invoice, no call-out fee, no argument.

  • How we fitted, joined and installed the work
  • Backed in writing — just ask for it on your quote
  • Same plumber stands behind it, start to finish
Save the invoice — that’s all the proof you need.
Manufacturer Variesby product

The appliance or unit itself.

The hot water system, the tap body, the toilet cistern, the pump — the actual product is covered by the maker, not by us. Those warranties run anywhere from one year to ten, depending on the brand and the product, and they belong to you as the owner.

  • Set by the manufacturer; passes through to you
  • If a unit fails inside its warranty, we’ll tell you
  • We can handle the claim with the maker for you
Keep the unit’s paperwork — the brand and date matter.
Wear-and-tear parts ~3months

The small parts built to wear out.

Tap washers, jumper valves, O-rings and seals, tap and toilet cartridges. These are consumable parts — the brake pads of your plumbing. Fitting a fresh one is a proper repair, but the part itself is sacrificial, so it carries a short warranty: usually around three months, not twelve.

  • Washers, jumper valves, seals, cartridges
  • Life depends on water pressure, quality and use
  • Designed to be swapped out, cheaply and often
This one surprises people most — so we spell it out below.
One job can touch all three. Replace a worn tap and you’ve got our workmanship (12 months), a new tap body from the maker (its own warranty), and a fresh washer or cartridge inside it (~3 months). Same repair, three different clocks.
§03 / The wear-and-tear rule

Why a new washer isn’t a 12-month part.

A tap washer or jumper valve is a small rubber or plastic part doing a hard job — sealing against mains water pressure, hundreds of times a day, sometimes against gritty or hard water. They’re made to be replaced: cheap, quick and routine.

So when one of these parts wears out again, that’s the part doing its job, not the repair failing. How long it lasts comes down to your water pressure, water quality and how often the tap gets used — none of which we control. That’s why consumables carry around a three-month warranty, while our workmanship on the same repair carries twelve.

And we’ll be straight with you on the day: if a tap is on its last legs — worn seat, tired body — a fresh washer might only buy a little time. We’ll tell you that on the spot, so you can choose between a quick repair now or a replacement that lasts.

§04 / Diagnosis & charging

Free Plumbing Inspection vs. Chargeable Fault-Finding: What's the Difference?

The same policy you’ll find on our promises and contact pages. We don’t charge you for an opinion — but pulling a fault apart and tracing it is a job in itself, and we’re upfront about which is which.

No charge

The quick look & the quote.

If we can stand there, look at the problem and tell you what’s likely going on without getting the tools out, that costs you nothing — every time.

  • A “no tools out” look and a straight opinion
  • Phone quotes, photo quotes, standard on-site quotes
  • Coming back to look at our own workmanship
Chargeable work

Real diagnosis & drawing up plans.

When pinning down a fault takes proper investigation — or the job needs a drawn-up plan or detailed scope — that’s work. We tell you the cost and get your go-ahead first.

  • Fault-finding: pulling apart, tracing, testing a system
  • Drawing up plans or a detailed scope of works
  • Always priced and OK’d by you before we start

The line is simple: looking is free, investigating is work. If a quick look tells us an appliance is failing inside its own manufacturer’s warranty, we’ll say so on the spot and point you the right way — no charge for that. More on this over on our promises and in the contact FAQ.

§05 / If something’s not right

How to Make a Plumbing Warranty Claim with PVS Plumbing

You don’t have to work out whose warranty applies. Ring the workshop, and the first job is figuring out which of the three covers you’re looking at — then it gets sorted from there.

01

Tell us

Ring or message the workshop. You’ll be talking to the plumber who did the job, not a complaints desk.

02

We work out which cover applies

Our workmanship, the manufacturer’s unit, or a worn consumable. The quick look is free.

03

It gets sorted

Our fault — fixed at no charge. A unit under maker’s warranty — we help with the claim. A worn part past its window — you get a straight number before anything happens.

My tap’s dripping again a few months after you fixed it — is that covered?
It depends what’s dripping. If our workmanship didn’t hold — a join we made, the way we fitted it — that’s on us for 12 months and we’ll put it right at no charge. If the washer or cartridge itself has worn out again, that’s a wear-and-tear part with around a three-month warranty, because how long it lasts depends on your water and how often the tap’s used. Either way, ring us and we’ll take a look for free and tell you straight which it is.
My hot water system died. Is that your warranty or the manufacturer’s?
If the unit itself has failed, that’s the manufacturer’s warranty — those run from one year to ten depending on the brand. Our 12-month guarantee covers the install: the connections, the fittings, the way we put it in. A quick look usually tells us which side of the line it’s on, and if it’s a manufacturer fault we can handle the claim with them for you.
Do you handle the manufacturer’s warranty claim for me?
Yes, where we can. If a unit we supplied or installed fails inside its manufacturer’s warranty, we’ll deal with the maker on your behalf to get it repaired or replaced. It helps a lot if you’ve kept the original paperwork or invoice, so the brand and install date are easy to confirm.
Do I need to keep anything to make a claim?
Just your invoice from us — that’s all the proof you need for the workmanship guarantee. For an appliance, hang onto the unit’s own paperwork too, so the brand, model and date are on hand if we ever need to make a manufacturer claim.
Is it free for you to come and look?
A quick look is free — no tools out, no charge — and so is coming back to check our own workmanship. Where it changes is real diagnosis or fault-finding, or drawing up plans and scopes: that’s chargeable work, and we’ll always tell you the cost and get your go-ahead before we start, never after.

None of this limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law — those apply on top of anything written here. Warranty periods are typical guides and can vary by product and job; we’ll confirm the specifics for your work when you book.

§06 / Book a plumber

Not sure what’s covered? Just ask.

No riddles, no run-around. Ring the workshop and we’ll tell you which warranty applies and what happens next — or send the job through and we’ll come back with a real answer within 48 hours.

What Australian Consumer Law means for plumbing work

Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), all plumbing services come with automatic consumer guarantees — they cannot be excluded by any written warranty or contract. These guarantees require that services are provided with due care and skill, that materials supplied are fit for purpose, and that the work is completed within a reasonable time.

This means PVS Plumbing’s 12-month workmanship guarantee sits on top of your ACL rights, not instead of them. If a problem arises after the 12-month window, you may still have a valid ACL claim depending on the circumstances.

If you’re unsure whether an issue is covered, contact us and we’ll give you a straight answer at no charge.

Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL) for Plumbing Work

The warranty periods described on this page are in addition to — not instead of — your statutory rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Under the ACL, you are entitled to guarantees that plumbing services will be provided with due care and skill, and that materials supplied will be fit for purpose.

If a problem arises that falls outside the timeframes listed here, you may still have rights under the ACL depending on the nature of the fault. Contact PVS Plumbing and we’ll help you understand your options.

All cover is backed in writing and complies with Australian Consumer Law.
