§06 / Gas fitting FAQ

What venue and site managers ask us.

Direct answers from a licensed NSW gasfitter. General information for sites in NSW.

Who has to lodge a gas Certificate of Compliance?
The gasfitter who did the work. Since 1 March 2026, every Certificate of Compliance or Certificate of Inspection must be lodged through Building Commission NSW’s eCert portal, within 5 business days of testing the installation. Emailed or posted paper copies are no longer accepted, and a copy also goes to the gas network operator in the same 5 business days.
Is the certificate different for LPG?
Yes. Network gas gets a Certificate of Compliance. LPG (bottled gas) gets a Certificate of Inspection, plus a compliance plate fitted at the installation. Both are lodged through the same eCert portal in the same timeframe.
Can you connect multiple appliances on one commercial kitchen line?
Yes. Where a kitchen runs more than one gas appliance, AS/NZS 5601.1 calls for an isolation valve that can isolate every appliance on the line together, which we fit as standard. We size the line to the combined load of every appliance connected to it.
Do you work on industrial gas supply, not just kitchens?
Yes. We run gas supply lines to industrial plant, kilns and burners, planned around a shutdown window where the site needs one, with the same pressure testing and eCert lodgement as a kitchen job.
Our fit-out has an opening date. How far ahead should we book gas work?
As soon as the kitchen equipment schedule is set. Gas work usually sits on the critical path for a council food-premises inspection, since the certificate has to be lodged before sign-off, so booking early keeps the fit-out on schedule rather than becoming the thing everyone is waiting on.
Can you quote the gas work alongside the rest of the kitchen fit-out?
Yes, that is the usual way we run a fit-out. Send through the equipment schedule and we will quote the gas connections, hot water sizing and grease trap plumbing as one job, and coordinate with your shopfitter, electrician and refrigeration trade so it lands on schedule.
What happens if a certificate is not lodged?
The installation is not compliant, which puts the food-premises sign-off and the site’s gas supply at risk. We lodge the certificate as part of the job, not as a follow-up step, so this should not be something you need to chase.
