§04 / Compliance calendar

The tests your site owes each year.

Most sites hear about a test from a notice. This is the calendar, with the rule behind each line, so you can see what is due before anyone writes to you.

General position for sites in the Sydney Water area, checked September 2026. Your approvals, your devices and the standards themselves decide the detail.
Device or system How often The rule Who lodges or keeps the record
Testable backflow devices, such as RPZ and double check valves When installed, then every 12 months Sydney Water requires high and medium hazard devices to be tested by an accredited backflow plumber. A site that has not been assessed is treated as high hazard. The tester lodges the results with Sydney Water within 2 days
Fire service connections Every 12 months Sydney Water requires a testable double check detector assembly on sprinkler and fire hydrant connections. As a medium hazard device it follows the same annual test rule as other backflow devices. The tester, with Sydney Water
Emergency showers and eyewash stations Regular activation, plus inspection and flow testing at the intervals in AS 4775:2026 Workplaces that use hazardous chemicals must provide suitable emergency equipment (SafeWork NSW code of practice). AS 4775 was reissued in June 2026. The site keeps the activation log; the plumber certifies the flow test
Gas installations Every job Certificate of Compliance through Building Commission NSW’s eCert portal, mandatory since 1 March 2026 The gasfitter, within 5 business days
Grease traps and trade waste Approval before discharge, then regular pump-outs Sydney Water approval for trade wastewater; a grease trap needs a connection agreement Pump-outs by an authorised liquid waste transporter, not the plumber
One booking, every test

Send us the list of testable devices on your site and when each one is due. Where the dates allow, we test backflow devices, fire service assemblies and emergency showers and eyewash in one visit, lodge what needs lodging with Sydney Water, and send back one list of what was tested and when each item is next due.

§05 / The accounts that stay

Long-Term Commercial Plumbing Accounts in Western Sydney.

Peter has been plumbing since 2000 and has run PVS since 2017. The accounts on the right have stayed through all of it: a club, a group of brick plants, a plasterboard factory, a manufacturer and an environmental services depot.

They stay for the reasons a new account would want: the same crew on each visit, the paperwork already in the contractor system, and no re-quoting argument on every callout.

§09 / Commercial FAQ

What facilities managers ask us.

Direct answers from a licensed NSW plumber. General information for sites in the Sydney Water area.

What does a commercial plumber do that a residential plumber does not?
The plumbing is similar; the stakes and the paperwork are not. Commercial sites carry testable backflow devices, trade waste approvals, plant-room hot water, fire service connections and gas appliances that have to be certified, and most sites want a SWMS, certificates of currency and an induction before anyone starts. We work on homes too, but commercial jobs come with that pack as standard.
How often does a backflow prevention device need testing in NSW?
In the Sydney Water area, high and medium hazard devices must be tested when they are installed and every year after, by an accredited backflow plumber. The results have to be lodged with Sydney Water within 2 days of the test. A commercial site that has never been assessed is treated as high hazard. We test, repair and replace testable devices and lodge the results for you.
What happens if our backflow test is overdue?
Book it now. Sydney Water can arrange the test itself and charge you for it, restrict the water supply or disconnect the service. Send us the notice through the enquiry form or by email and we will book the test and lodge the result.
Can you set up a maintenance account for our site?
Yes. An account starts with a walk of the site, then the paperwork, a list of every test and service date, and a visit schedule agreed around trading or production. Callouts go on account under the terms agreed at the start. We are a workshop rather than a national contractor, so we will tell you honestly whether we have room for your site.
Do you supply SWMS and certificates of currency?
Yes, before the first visit. Certificates of currency for public liability and workers compensation, a SWMS prepared for the scope, and JSAs in your site’s format if you use them. If your site runs a contractor management system, we complete the induction through it once, at the start of the account.
Can you work around our trading or production hours?
Yes. Planned work is booked before you open, after you close or into a shutdown window. Standard hours are 7am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday; work outside them is by arrangement, at an uplifted rate we tell you before booking.
Do you pump out grease traps?
No. Pump-outs are done by an authorised liquid waste transporter, and the trade waste approval stays with the venue. We install grease arrestors in the approved location, clear them when they block, and look after the kitchen plumbing around them.
Do you only work in Penrith?
No. We are based in Penrith and look after commercial and industrial sites across Western Sydney, including St Marys, Erskine Park, Wetherill Park, Marsden Park, Blacktown and Parramatta. Long-standing accounts take us further, to brick plants in the Hawkesbury and Bowral.
Does PVS Plumbing lodge backflow test results with Sydney Water?
Yes. PVS Plumbing is an accredited backflow plumber and lodges all test results with Sydney Water within the required 2-day window. Sites receive a summary of what was tested and when each device is next due.
What types of commercial sites does PVS Plumbing service in Western Sydney?
PVS Plumbing services clubs and pubs, factories and plants, warehouses, strata and office buildings, retail tenancies, and food venues and commercial kitchens across Western Sydney and Penrith. The same crew handles backflow testing, facilities maintenance, gas fitting, drain jetting and plant installation.
